So you are finally the mayor of your own village, but realize that the title does not come with a fancy salary. As is the case with every Animal Crossing game, your days at New Leaf will be spent finding ways to craft enough bells to afford the best things in life, not to mention throwing up your tent and getting yourself a home. . Not only will you have public works to finance, but you will also have several home loans to repay and furniture to purchase. So what should a New Leaf mayor do? Here are some tips on how to make bells fast and make your financial problems go away.

Pay off your first loan

You’re new to town and everyone has high hopes for you as the new mayor, but there’s a catch: you live in a tent. Before you serve as mayor or visit your tropical island, you will need to repay Tom Nook’s initial 10,000 Bell loan. This number might seem like a lot considering you don’t have anything with you, but it’s not difficult to pay it off in a matter of hours.

What you should do right away is gather all the trees in your town and sell them for bells. Native fruits cost 100 bells each, but depending on how many trees you have, that’s about 3,000 bells there. Remember that you will also find a perfect fruit on any of your trees. Perfect fruits have a different shape or color and sell for 600 bells each. Instead of selling it, plant it to produce a perfect fruit tree for even more cash quickly later. Trees take 3 days to regrow fruit after picking and 4 days to fully mature after you bury a fruit in the ground.

If you’re lucky, Nookling Junction will have a fishing rod or bug net for slae. At this point, your best bet is to hope for a fishing rod and head to the beach to catch some expensive fish. You can even catch a shark, which will instantly pay off your original loan. If no fishing rod is available, you will have to catch some insects to profit from it. It will take longer than fishing, but you should have enough cash in no time.

Pay everything

HNI_0035Once you’ve paid off your initial loan, you’ll find that your home is very cramped and may need to be expanded. As usual, you will need to continually pay off even more loans to keep your home growing and improving. Your next loan will total 39,800, then 98,000, followed by 198,000, and finally 298,000 for an upstairs bedroom. And even then you will have the option to add four more rooms and make them even bigger. That’s 19 loans totaling over 7 million bells. Sounds like a lot, eh? Well, here’s how you can pay it all off in less than a month and still have some bells to splurge on clothes and furniture.

Bell Bloom Order

Once you have paid off your initial loan, you can go to your town hall office to make an order for the town to operate as you wish. Since you are looking to make a lot of bells quickly, select the Bell Bloom order to increase the price of things by 20%. Sure, the items will cost more, but the bugs and fish you sell will earn you an even prettier penny.

The island

Your island will be available two days after your initial loan of 10,000 bells has been repaid. You can visit your island as many times as you like during a day for 1,000 bells per trip. The island not only offers you mini-games and an always summery climate, but it is also a paradise for making bells.

Tropical flight

All the expensive fish and bugs come out in the evening after 7pm, so don’t make it to the island earlier than that unless you want to play mini-games and steal the fruit from the many trees you will see. Anything you take with you during a mini-game (flowers, insects, fruit) stays with you after the mini-game is over, and you can then take these items home and sell them for a profit. Non-native fruits sell for 500 bells each, and tropical fruits like bananas and coconuts sell for 200 bells each. Plus, you don’t have to wait for the trees to grow back as the mini-games will always provide you with mature trees for picking.

Shark fishing

After 7 p.m. you have two options for making bells. You can still cast your line and hope to catch expensive tropical fish or even rare sharks that sell for 15,000 bells each, but this method can be time consuming. Also, since the fish appear as shadows in the ocean, you won’t always know what you are going to get. You may not press the button in time when a fish bites as well.

Beetle hunt

Instead, what you should do is prepare your island for the beetles, which only come out at night and constantly spawn every few seconds. First, cut down each tree on your island and leave two palm trees at opposite ends and a regular tree in the middle. This will make it easier to sneak up on the beetles without scaring them and also provide you with enough trees for them to breed. Then all you have to do is borrow a net and walk until you see a beetle hanging from a tree. The easiest thing about catching beetles compared to fish is that you can see which ones you want to catch and which ones aren’t worth much to you.

HNI_0055Dynastic beetles will be the most common, but only sell for 1,350, so if you see them hanging from a tree, run over them to scare them off. In fact, scare away anything you don’t intend to catch. The island can only hold 4-5 insects at a time, so any time you scare an insect you don’t want like a hermit crab or dock roach, it will make room for a valuable beetle. . You can’t scare the butterflies away, so grab them or go in and out of the hut to load up a new batch of bugs.

Beetles you are looking for include the Atlas beetle (8,000), elephant beetle (8,000), cyclommatus (8,000), rainbow deer (10,000), Scarab Hercules (12,000), and the rare Golden deer (12,000). If you catch bugs after 11 p.m. you will also encounter the Giant beetle (10,000). Note that these are their prices before you add the 20% increase that the Bell Bloom Order grants you. Remember to hold your net and approach it slowly, leaving a space between you and the tree before releasing the button and catching them.

Your nighttime routine should involve heading to the island, catching enough bugs to fill your box of keepsakes, and then heading home to sell them at Re-Tail before they close at 11am. If they are closed after you return, you can store your insects in your home and sell them the next day. Repeat this process and you will be making a million bells in just a few hours. In a matter of weeks, you will be able to pay off all your loans and finance any public works project you want.

Change of donkey

HNI_0069Every day, a silver stone will randomly appear in your city and generate bells after being hit with a shovel. You can hit the boulder multiple times for increasing amounts of money, but you only have a limited amount of time before it stops giving you bells with each hit. You will suffer a knockback with each hit, so it’s a good idea to dig holes behind your character to hold yourself in place as you strike. Another way to make a quick buck comes after building the Dream Suite. Every time you update your city data and upload it to the servers, Luna will give you 5,000 bells, so it’s not a bad idea to take a nap every day. Finally, fossils that you have already sold to museums can also be sold for high prices, and since you get 4 fossils in your city each day, you are bound to come across the ones your museum already has.

So this is it. The real solution to anyone’s loan problems is catching beetles. If only real loans were that easy. Tell us how you’ll spend your first few days in your new city and don’t forget to check out our Animal Crossing: New Leaf Review. Your new city awaits!
