What began on a small island known as Oahu, now resides on a more familiar slice of the Gulf Coast. Cape Coral native and founder of Dream Earth Bowls, Ashley Yamamoto never dreamed of leaving a positive impact on the world. “Growing up, I longed for a space where I could connect with other dreamers in my community,” she said. And, in the midst of determining her academic career path, she left traditional academia, “in quest.” This quest was a one-way trip to Hawaii. Upon arriving in Maui, Yamamoto received her 200-hour yoga teacher certification, before jumping on a puddle jumper in Honolulu where she worked on an organic farm focused on permaculture, self-education and peaceful life in a dream state.
“I started asking myself some deep questions: ‘What did I want to bring while I’m here?’ ‘What impact did I want to have on the world?’ and finally, ‘What is my dream?’ “, she said. “It started to click. I used my passion for health and wellness and created a solution for my childhood research. Dream Earth Bowls quickly became a concept for bringing people together to share their dreams, inspire others to follow theirs, and serve communities with nutritious food options. Having recently moved to his hometown, Yamamoto, along with business partner Joseph Malu, is now making his mark on the region’s farmers’ market scene. Spot them as vendors at four Southwest Florida locations: Captiva Island Farmers Market, Lakes Park Farmers Market, Sanibel Island Farmers Market, and our very own Downtown Sarasota Farmers Market. And while a brick-and-mortar store may be on the horizon for them, farmers’ markets have made Yamamoto feel more connected to his community and develop a clearer understanding of what people value.
The colorful menu features four handcrafted smoothie bowl blends: Dream Bowl (an organic acai, strawberry, blueberry, banana, and apple juice base); Blossom Bowl (a base of dragon fruit, mango, strawberry, almond milk); Earth Bowl (a base of acai, strawberry, blueberry, banana, peanut butter, and coconut milk); and Ocean Bowl (Blue Majik Spirulina, Banana, Pineapple, Coconut Milk, and MCT Oil Base). Not a single artificial coloring, added sugar, preservative or filler will be found here. Instead, each blended fancy contains a handful of heart- and gut-healthy ingredients and antioxidant superfoods. Topped with organic granola, coconut flakes, fresh-cut fruit, and drizzled with local honey, almond butter, or homemade cocoa nib, this sweet, nutritious-packed treat sounds too good to be true.
And just as you chose the colorful bowl to use on their tent stand, you’ll be prompted to think thoughtfully, “What’s Your Dream?” — written in cursive on Dream Earth’s wooden board. Clothespins hang from a string to attach and share answers written on note cards. Ambitious answers from predecessors were: “Build a van, travel across the country and give back; “Travel the world and save all the animals;” “Change the lives of children, give them clean water and food; “Own many animals and live on a farm;” “Pets all the dogs.” A pattern is evident with these dreamy companions – perhaps some have even idealized theirs in action by now. As for the bowls, well, they remain in a state of otherworldly delight.
